R: Are you the type of person that puts much emphasis on friends?
F: i'm not the type that need friends every day. we don't need to always keep in contact. there's no need to phone
them everyday......then of course i need friends, but i also need some private personal time.
R: can you describe your relationship with Katie?
F: we have "tacit understanding" (dictionary translation. we don't need to talk much but we already clearly
understand what is good for both of us and what we both need.
R: how long have you worked with her?
F: 7 years. it was my producer, Alvin leung, that introduced Katie to me when i came back from the States. our
relationship started from work. But now, we have already become close friends and close partners.
R: What qualities do you admire about Katie?
F: It is most important for a manager to understand the artist's needs. As for Katie, she clearly understands me and
we are able to communicate. Before i got to know her, i always thought she was a strong, ambitious business
woman, but after interacting with her, i found out that she has plenty of maternal instincts. she has plenty of motherly
love...she doesn't just treat me like that, but she also treats all the staff like a real mother too. But i'm not a very
sappy person, i will keep many things to myself...just like many people around me call Katie "AH MA" (mother),
but i won't. just that...we can communicate very well and have a mutual understanding between each other in both
my personal life and career.
R: how has she influenced you?
F: i don't think i need to elaborate on what she has done for my career. as for my own life, she has given me warmth
and a sense of security. i need a lot of fire to keep warm, and she has a lot of "fire" in her personality
too...hahahahha....so that's why she can give me warmth.
R: are there any low points in your relationship with Katie?
F: then of course, but very very little. after cooperating with her for so many years, i can only remember having low
points for only 2 to 3 times. it's mostly me being impatient, too much work load, or having personal problems.
R: what do you like to do most when you're with friends?
F: PLAY LOH!
R: play mah jong?? what's so attractive about mah jong?
F: uhmmm.....what's the pleasure of playing mah jong ah??? WAHH..very hard to say lah!! hahah..hahha....people
who like it will understand.
R: in beijing, what do you usually do with friends?
F: similar to my life in hk, play loh....sometimes i play ball games....badmitnon, table tennis, bowling ah.....friends
gather together essentially to find enjoyment and happiness through playing.
R: what do you think is the difference between northerners and hk people?
F: northereners are very straightfoward and rather crude and careless..they don't care about details and are more
easy going with things. people in hk are rather passive, they have plenty of plans..hahha.....beijing ppl are THINK
LINES (chinese expression).
R: how do you think friends stay together neh?
F: i think the most important is fate...secondly is your birthday, horoscope (chinese beliefs lah) etc etc can
match...hahha...and also it's important that you understand each other.
R: which friend has emotionally touched/moved you?
F: i seldom have situations like this, emotionally touched and memorable......i find it very sappy...i just find it very
happy when i'm with friends, play ah happy ah.....i seldom get really moody in these situations..if i do, i get really
really scared and i leave immediately.
R: do you believe in forever friendships?
F: yes, i believe in forever friendships. it's the same as my belief that there's ever- lasting love. but there's many parts
that adds up together to make this happen. you won't know when changes will happen because they are
unpredictable. so, i believe that forever frienships exiust, but very hard to achieve.
