27 Feb 2002 -- Faye's movie "Chinese Odessey 2002" is doing better in the box office then I expected, even better then "Lord of the Rings"! Currently her movie is on 6th place and that's a good result for Faye.

24 Feb 2002 -- I found this film review from "Chinese Odessey 2002" from 2002-02-21 issue of South China Morning Post, so I post it here for you to read.
The best of this season's Lunar New Year pictures, Chinese Odyssey 2002
is a handsome classical farce with a few more layers than the usual
mainstream product. Director-writer Jeff Lau Chen-wai (who as usual
signed his work with the pseudonym Ji An) in many ways surpasses his
previous costume block-blusters, Eagle Shooting Heroes: Dong Cheng Xi
Jiu (1993) and Chinese Odyssey (1995), utilising a first-rate cast and
eccentric storyline to create an opus that for all its anarchy is
integrated surprisingly well.
Not quite up to the zany heights reached in Lau's much-loved 1960s spoof
92 The Legendary La Rose Noire (1992), Chinese Odyssey 2002 takes place
a half-millennium ago during the Ming dynasty. The young emperor Zhengde
(Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon's Chang Chen) and his princess sister
(Faye Wong) disobey the dowagaer empress (Rebecca Pan) by stealing away
from the royal palace to masquerade as swordsmen and roam the
countryside.
In Meilong Village, they come across ruffian Bully the Kid (Tony Leung
Chiu-wai) and his sister Phoenix (Vicki Zhao Wei, in her first film
since her Japanese flag-wearing controversy).
The gender-bendering story is not unusual in this genre, bu Lau injects
freshness with its mixing of 21st- and 16th-century conventions, clever
use of voice-over narration (read with panache by Jan Lamb Hoi-fung),
multiple points of view, and even some quasi-traditional musical numbers
in the style of "yellow plum" huangmei opera. One wishes the film-makers
had gone further with the latter, which are technically marred by sloppy
lip-syncing and rhythmically mismatched inserts. No fault, though, with
the vocals by Tony Leung and Faye Wong. They stand out, with Wong giving
a sparkling performance in her first costume picture.
Produced by Wong Kar-wai, Chinese Odyssey 2002 sports the stunning
visuals one expects from one of his productions. Ngor Chi-kwan's
cinematography, Tony Au's art direction and William Cheung's costumes
are sumptuous, providing this odyssey with a look that is both classic
and classy.
