I like this movie for not being to compicated, but I was missing the edge somewhere. Trying to be both action and humouristic, it seams to fall between the chairs. There was a few laughts in the audience when I watch the movie and I was smiling myself as weel. It seams like Okinawa Rendez-Vous is aiming somewhere but never really takes off. The story is good and the main actors as weel. Especially I like Tony and Gigi playing the Japanese host at the beach in Okinawa. Another funny/strange part is the Japanese actor that cannot speak chinese. All his lines is in English! The subtitles consiquensly was in both Chinese and English. Faye is unfortnually plaing a smaller part of the movie with really no acting to do, a few lines here and there, tnat's all. I like her much more in CKE where she had a more important roll to play and also was given more space in the movie to act. The only part where she can really show her self and her abilities is in the end when she sings "New Tenant". I hope the next movie 2046 will give Faye more roolplaying and opportunities to act. All together I like the movie. It's well shot and cut, the photo is beautiful and the story moves on thoughout the movie. I find some Chinese movies sometimes a little jumpy when it comes to telling a story, Okinawa Rendez-Vous is more fluent and easy to follow. If i would rank the movie, it would be 4 out of 5. What i missed was some more action, the crocks seams to be a little lame ...
